Her father Anwar Azim was a prominent Marxist journalist and Urdu author. Neelima was born as Kanwal Azim on 2 December 1959, Mumbai. The story of the most successful film of Shahid Kapoor, ‘Jab we met’ looks similar to his real life and surprisingly the movie was made two years after Neelima’s third marriage. This marriage lasted for 5 years only and couple got divorced in the year 2009. This time, she married Indian classical vocalist, Munawar Ali Khan, son of Bade Ghulam Ali Khan in the year 2004.
